ArialMany health care professionals now believe that protein consumption in the United Status has become too high for our own good. Among them, Charles R. Attwood, M.D., F.A.A.P., states that most adults in the United Status consume 100 or more protein grams a day. Twice as much as most people need. Some professionals connect such unnaturally high protein consumption with increase in cancer rates.
We mentioned previously that complete proteins are made up of a group of amino acids. Since our bodies break down amino acids and store them for later, combining certain foods at the same meal is not necessary. This makes nutrition easy and simple.
We just need to eat a wide variety and we will get all the protein that we need. That wide variety includes, as stated earlier, a variety of vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds, and legumes.
One other change that seems not to have caught up with us is the fact that the FDA´s recommended daily allowance of protein was revised down to 44 to 63 grams a day. Some medical professionals think even this is too high.
Here are some things to consider as we plan our meals.
Cooking food destroys about 50% of the nutrients. Therefore, whenever we eat our food raw, we get about twice as much nutrition as if we cook it.
But that is not all. In its natural state, our food contains enzymes that are needed to digest and assimílate a particular food. Those enzymes are destroyed by heat. We do produce enzymes in our bodies but many people don´t have enough. In fact, some professionals tell us that we are born with a certain amount of enzymes and when they are used up, that´s it! Which may be one reason elderly people have digestión problems.
But the good newes is that when food is uncooked, we conserve the enzymes that make it possible to use those vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that we need for a strong immune system and excellent health. Which leads us to one last but important economy factor. Most (if not all) of us who have adopted the mostly-raw lifestyle have cut down or, in my case, completely elimininated the necessity for prescriptions or doctor bills.
Imagine what it will be like to have lots of energy, feel great all the time, and have awesome resistance to colds and other maladies. And to see your children healthier because of your efforts. Children who get the nutrition that they need feel better, learn better, are smarter and have a better chance in life.
In my opinión, it´s worth it!
